Reflected Light Series
Looped video and site-specific installation at Hillyer Art Space, Washington, DC
2010
A durational video documenting light entering my studio in Washington, DC during the longest days of the year in the summer months. Because of the angle of the window, the only natural light entering the space was from reflected sunlight bouncing off of a neighbor’s window. The light came in at a certain time each day and was always different, affected by the speed and direction of the wind blowing into trees and the shadows they cast. The piece was installed in a corner and ceiling to mimic the original way the sun came through the window. This piece was a final farewell to Washington, DC, before moving to Amsterdam, NL and uses the Dutch obsession with natural light as a reference point.
